What is Cyber Essentials?  

Princeps are very proud to be Cyber Essentials Plus Certified, but what is it and why is it so important? 

Cyber Essentials is a Government backed scheme that will helps protect Princeps against a range of the most common cyber attacks such as: 

• Phishing attacks 
• Malware 
• Ransomware 
• Password guessing 
• Network attacks

Cyber Essentials sets out five controls that, once implemented, strengthen cyber defences: 

• Boundary firewalls and internet gateways 
• Secure configuration
• Access control and administrative privilege management
• Virus and Malware protection
• Patch management

 Cyber Essentials Plus still has the Cyber Essentials trademark simplicity of approach, and the protections you need to put in place are the same except this higher level of assurance is followed by a technical audit of the systems that are in-scope for Cyber Essentials. This includes physically testing a representative set of user devices, all internet gateways and all servers with services accessible to unauthenticated internet users. Only once this audit is successfully completed can the Cyber Essentials Plus Certification be awarded.
